Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious collision in Sandown in which a woman in her 70s suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called at 13:50 on the 21st July following a report of a collision on Broadway, on the zebra crossing near the junction with Winchester Park Road. This involved a pedestrian and a grey Skoda Kamiq.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, suffered serious injuries and is being treated in hospital.
A Police spokesperson has said:
“Anyone with information or relevant dash cam or CCTV footage is asked to call 101 quoting reference 44250325858.
“Alternatively, you can make a report online at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/.”

Hope the lady is ok? On a pedestrian crossing, the person driving should have their licence taken off them, no more driving, you stop at a pedestrian crossing or did you not take a driving test??
do you actually know what happened ??? Did you see it??
It seems that you think that you did.
I cannot believe in 2025 the island doesn’t have camera’s
by pedestrian crossings and traffic lights.
“Road safety on the island is poor”
Take Sandown for example.
IW Council and Sandown Town Council allow vehicles
to drive on and off the pavement opposite Sandown Pier
outside the old tourist information centre.
“This is within a pedestrianised zone”
Also the vehicles doing so are “evading” parking charges.
If I ever received a parking ticket in Sandown I would
refuse to pay it, you cannot let motorists evade parking
charges whilst other motorists are expected to pay a
parking charge.
Where are the Councils Civil Enforcement Officers in
Sandown, I believe they turn a blind eye in certain
situations.
IW Council and Sandown Town Council are useless!
