A crash on Military Road in foggy conditions has prompted an emergency response to Compton this afternoon (Wednesday).
The crash has occurred on the A3055/Military Road between Hanover Point car park and Compton Farm.
The initial 999 call was made at around 16:30.
Island Echo understands that the incident has involved at least 1 car that has come to a rest partially up a verge.
At the scene, the occupants are being tended to by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are also on scene and are directing traffic.
Visibility is said to be very poor in the area.
Traffic is building so motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.

So many people dawdle around turning into this car park or leave it then crawl along instead of accelerating up s normal speed. Speed kills and that is just as applicable to travelling to slowly as it is to travelling too fast.
It was nothing to do with speed at all. Nothing whatsoever. I followed the vehicle and checked on the driver.
This road is probably one of the most scenic on the island. The majority of drivers on this road will be visitors and islanders wanting to go for a pleasant drive. Very few people will use this route to travel between Freshwater and Newport. So, the majority of drivers/passengers on this road will be dawdling/taking in the view. It is naive to think otherwise. Unfortunately, there are a few drivers/bikers that want to use this road to travel at very high speeds. They are WRONG in their assumption that other drivers will be going fast also; indeed, it’s more likely to be the opposite. Good and intelligent drivers will be able to rationalise this and therefore reduce their speed accordingly. These fast drivers/bikers really do need to THINK a lot more.

Why are you still assuming it was high speed. It had bugger-all to do with speed.
Very well said, Graham. It’s simply not good enough to drive as though nothing will ever be there. Many Island drivers do not drive defensively and don’t anticipate anything other than their own entitlement.

I was driving along Yaverland Road today
and 2 idiot motorists on the opposite side
of the road had a bicycle in front of them
and the uneducated idiots overtook the bike
when I was driving by.
“People just cannot wait”
I cannot wait for the Island to install
Camera’s on the island.
We need to stop motorists speeding and
stop them breaking the rules by
overtaking in unsafe conditions.
