Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision on Whiterails Road between Wootton and Newport this afternoon (Tuesday).
2 cars are said to be involved in the incident, which has occurred outside the Butterfly World attraction. Both have sustained significant damage but no one is thought to be trapped inside either wreckage.
Police are on scene alongside an ambulance crew and officer from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Traffic is heavy and motorists are advised to avoid the area, although the road remains open.
UPDATE @ 17:12 – Police have confirmed that the incident involves a Citroen Picasso and a Seat Ibiza.
The force was alerted to the incident at 15:53.

Speed
Anyone who argues with that, really needs to spend some time down there.
Yes and probably going to fast as well?
How about letting the police decide what the cause is all the judgemental people that think they know what causes every crash it’s not always speed
Yes and probably going to fast as well?
Citreon Picasso and a Seat involved.
Both drivers were probably over 60 and close to the age of a mandatory retest.
Really makes you think…
Could you clarify “close to the age of a mandatory test” What age is that?
When they should be tested to see if they should give up their license.
Its how it should be done…
Young people in hot hatches have far more crashes.
Citation needed.
Go on find your “evidence”
I’ve got a couple ciders to get through and a film to watch, take all the time you need mate 🙂
Bet you’d also whine that Brexit/Tory rule and Trump = Endtimes.
People like you are why I vote such for the lulz of it.
If you had a brain cell it would be lonely. Look at the figures. Far more younger and middle-aged drivers have accidents than over 60’s.
…
Incorrect. I personally know the driver of one of the vehicles & they are lucky not to be seriously hurt including a 2 year baby!
Know your facts before you post stupid comments!
Really makes me think what a wildly inaccurate and judgemental statement you’ve just made, knowing who’s involved.
Ignorant stupid drivers.. Go damage yourself on race tracks….
Do you know what actually happened? Maybe find out before you post ridiculous comments!
Speed, speed and more speed…far too many idiot’s on the island roads now, it’s a way of life.
Do you actually know the facts? ♂️
Anyone been to the queen’s road race way in Ryde lately. You can stand and watch the boy racers every night from about 10.00pm and the motorbikes come and join me no police to be seen.
So long as they race 6ft apart, what’s to moan about? They’re following social distancing like the rest of the sheeple that way
Where does it mention speed in this article
I was on the southern vectis bus going back to newport just after 4pm and i saw the crash. The car was going to fast again.
The crash happened at 3:50pm, so I’m not quite sure how you think you saw it when you were not there until after 4pm?
Where is this place – ‘fast’ -everyone is going to??
I was driving the Citroen with my mum and 2 year old daughter in the car, I’m also pregnant so I can assure you that I was not ‘driving too fast’. I was driving around 40mph on a national speed limit road, when the Seat Ibiza pulled out in front of me and I did not have time to swerve out of the way or brake. So please before you all sit and blame my speed or say that both drivers must be too old and need retesting, maybe wait until you hear what really happened..
No matter what people put on this site unless they are completely uncaring I’m sure everyone hopes you and your unborn child are all ok.
I guess so, I just don’t like the idea of people blaming me for speeding when it wasn’t the case, it isn’t a very nice read as you can probably imagine. I hope so too.
Hope you are all ok. I have had two very near misses in car and one on cycle on that stretch when cars have pulled out (from riding place and butterfly world exits) when they should have waited. Perhaps better signage there wouldn’t go amiss.
I’ve seen so many people pull out of butterfly world into the path of oncoming traffic, and not match their speed, forcing them to suddenly brake. Even from 40mph. Sometimes going too slow can cause accidents too! If you’re not prepared to do drive up to 60mph to match others, wait until they’ve gone past! There is plenty of clear sight from their to judge how fast a car is approaching.
