Morrisons is set to install 8 new electric vehicle charging bays at its Lake store, but the move will come at the cost of 15 existing staff parking spaces.
A planning application, submitted by Motor Fuel Group, outlines the creation of a dedicated electric vehicle charging zone within the existing car park at Newport Road. The proposal includes the installation of chargers, a substation enclosure, LV panel, meter cabinet and associated infrastructure.
The new charging bays – located on the access road to the delivery yard – will be equipped with Alpitronic’s high-speed Hypercharger HYC-400 units, capable of delivering ultra-rapid charging to compatible electric vehicles.
Currently, the supermarket only has 2 EV bays located in the main customer car park. The planned development will raise the total number of EV charging spaces on site to 10.
As a result of the works, 15 staff parking spaces will be permanently removed. A highways assessment confirms that the displacement of long-stay staff parking is expected to have a minimal impact, as the adjacent customer car park – which includes 235 standard spaces – typically operates well below capacity, even during peak periods.
The application notes that staff vehicles will likely move into the customer section of the car park, resulting in a projected occupancy increase of between 2.8% and 5.0%. The report also concludes that the development will not lead to a rise in vehicle movements or require any off-site highway works.
No objections have been raised by Island Roads.
You seem to forget the last reported news from morrisons was a electric delivery fleet .
So these will be for the vans ,all ready they are struggling and have had to return to recharge to carry on the deliveries . Hence why these are being installed .lol
