Oakfield have been promoted to Isle of Wight Division 1 following a comprehensive victory over Newchurch at Slade Road just 1 year after being reformed.
Jamie Phillips opened the scoring for the Oakers after 5 minutes by taking a through ball down the line before blasting it into the the back of the net (1-0).
The 2nd came courtesy of Ollie Hammond in the 64th minute, who volleyed in a cross (2-0).
The goal of the game came in the 72nd minute from a spectacular 25-yard strike from Ben Gardener that went in off the upright (3-0).
Newchurch pulled a goal back with a 77th minute penalty converted by Nick Weedon (3-1).
The Oakers then went on to score 2 late goals – a Nathan Roberts tap in in the 81st (4-1) before Ben Gardener bagged his brace 5 minutes from full time by shooting into an open goal (5-1).
Full time: Oakfield 5-1 Newchurch
After the game, Oakfield manager Andy Venn – who has recently returned from a 2 month spell in hospital – said:
“Hard work got us there in the end. Newchurch gave us a decent game. But we had to work hard for the points.
“It was good to come out of hospital for this.”

It has been a very successful year for the Oakers, who won the Ryde & District Cup earlier in the year and have reached the final of the Junior A Cup.
Oakfield Reserves have also been promoted from Combination 2 and may take the title if they win their last 2 games.
In the only other game to be played in Division 2, goals from Josh Richardson, Macca Barnes and Mack Blacklock saw ECS beat Niton at Springhead.
