A tyre fitter from East Cowes has raised in excess of £10,000 for WightDASH ahead of a 26.2-mile charity walk in Ryde – which he will complete whilst wearing stiletto heels.
Peter May will set off from Ryde Pier at 08:00 on Sunday (30th October) and will be walking up and down the pier, as well along the Esplanade to Appley and back. At lunchtime, he will complete a lap of the Town Centre. He hopes that people will walk with him to help keep his mind off the pain in his feet!
Councillor Michael Lilley will join Peter for a period of time and will also be wearing heels.
It’s thought that this charity challenge, which has already raised £10,755, will be a first, although a lady completed the London Marathon many years ago in 3-inch heels.
Ryde Castle has kindly offered a lounge for the day as a base for Peter and his supporters. An after-party will be held at the Castle from 18:00 with entertainment from 19:00.
Peter, who owns Fort View Tyres in St Helens, is hoping to finish at some point between 20:00-21:00.
Peter says:
“This is almost the end of a crazy journey for me that has seen me walk from St Helens to East Cowes (13 miles) whilst wearing heels to fit tyres for a day, to be a waiter at Shoreside Cafe and Kevars Cafe in the Country, to walk around The bus museum, The model village and even do an Eddie Izzard spoof photo shoot on East Cowes prom with the help of Jane and Eric Giden.
“Only last week we did the crazy pier-to-pier challenge from Sandown to Shanklin and back, including 1 whole length on the beach – yes in heels.
“Please help me on this final push to support raising awareness of domestic abuse and my nominated charity WightDash.
“And from the bottom of my heart I thank each and everyone of you for your support”.
Wight Dash is a domestic abuse hub for women and men on the Isle of Wight.
