The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are responding to a property fire in Newport this evening (Saturday), where it is feared persons are trapped inside.
3 fire appliances – 2 from Newport and 1 from Cowes – have been mobilised to West Street in the town to reports of a ground floor flat fire, according to fire control.
The incident is being treated as persons reported, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police also mobilised to the scene.
The Incident Command Unit is on scene coordinating the emergency response.
Firefighters were initially called to the scene at 17:42.
UPDATE @ 18:40 – It has been confirmed that a fire broke out in the hallway of the ground floor flat.
Fire crews have used a hose reel jet and 2 breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Positive pressure ventilation has been used to clear smoke from the building.
It’s understood a man has been assisted from the flat, but has escaped injury.
