UPDATED: Emergency services including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a road traffic collision on Steyne Road in Bembridge this evening (Wednesday).
Fire Crews from Ryde and Bembridge, Paramedics and Police are all in attendance at the scene outside The Spinnaker Hotel near the junction with Lane End.
One vehicle has come to rest on its side and the occupants are trapped.
A second vehicle, a silver Hyandai Getz, is also thought to be involved.
UPDATE @ 18:45 – Paramedics are working alongside firefighters to safely extricate the occupant of the vehicle, which has now been stabilised.
The road has been closed in both directions. Motorists should divert locally.
UPDATE @ 18:55 – One elderly female has been extricated from her vehicle and is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Island Echo understands the overturned car collided with a parked vehicle before rolling onto its side.
No one else has been injured in the incident.
Recovery of the vehicles has been arranged and the road is expected to reopen within the next hour.
