The pedestrian, a man in his 40s from Newport, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries and is being treated in hospital.
The driver of the Renault, a 36-year-old woman from Newport, has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving, causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
She remains in custody.
A Police spokesperson has said:
“If anyone has any information about this incident, witnessed the collision, or has any relevant CCTV or dash cam footage, please contact us.
“You can call 101 quoting reference 44250095784 or make a report online at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/.”
Until drink and drug drivers are banged up,
our roads will never be safe!
Everywhere you go thesedays on the island you can smell
Cannabis.
It is embarrassing, what must holidaymakers think.
No different to England, unfortunately.
Very true, easier to police on a small island
that is surrounded by water.
Sniffer dogs on all incoming ferries, that will
stop the drugs arriving.
Perhaps a few questions to Donna Jones as to what priority she gives to combatting illegal drugs – I suspect it is in the “too hard” pile
Are you bonkers? No it will not stop drugs getting to the island. Why don’t you wake up and join the real world. Do you actually think that the islands drugs come over via the ferries? I would imagine it would be easier to grow it locally. Well at least cannabis.
what’s embarrassing is your lack of job and social skills. Get out man!
Who needs a job when one is retired.
Nothing wrong with my social skills,
I just notice that the island is full of
numpty’s who don’t understand right from
wrong.
And what will happen…nothing.
