Members of Lake Parish Council continue to call for more Police action to combat increased anti-social behaviour in Lake, and across The Bay, following a spate of incidents at the weekend.
Parish Chairman Councillor Paul Brading has said:
“We’ve seen the vandalism of the toilets in Lake Cliff Gardens, graffiti on signs and other locations, and this follows incidents at Battery Gardens.
“We need to work together to deal with the issues, not just move them from one location to another, and we are already in talks with Sandown and Shanklin to share resources, as well as meet with statutory agencies. We are also working with Sandown and Shanklin to secure a meeting with the Police & Crime Commissioner”.
Lake is currently investing in new toilets on Lake Cliff Path, as well as consulting on plans for a new facility at New Road, and are encouraging local residents to report any incidents to the Police.
Vice-chairman Councillor Adrian Whittaker adds:
“The ongoing anti-social behaviour of a mindless few adds to the costs of providing services, as well as stops us investing in new activities and services – and we are talking to the Police about possible a stronger local presence”.
There has been an increased local Police presence following incidents on the local Railway, as well as following criminal damage at derelict properties in The Bay.

weirdly though i dont think a single ie reader will disagree with the words tbh! pity it wasnt written on there own actuall building
Well said my friend
Let’s hope the Police doesn’t insist on making a list of people who think ‘The IOW Council is trash’ to investigate each one.
The culprits will be collecting their pension before they are interviewed
Well said Jon totally agree with you
That’s freedom of speech. And quite polite given how most of us feel about them!
We are in trouble if normally decent law abiding people think it okay to termporarily disfigure a building, visually blight the area, give approval to any can-wielding and incur the cost of a clean-up just because they agree with the sentiments of what is written. That’s not free speech in any language.
‘Blight the area’ oh please just look at the ugly council building in Newport the graffiti would match very well.
Of course graffiti is unacceptable but it says more about the IOW Council than it does about the writer. I suspect more priority and resources will be given to tracing the so called vandal than any steps taken by the IOW Council to pull their socks up and prove the writer wrong.
I’m so glad I live in the West Wight, the real Island.
East Wight is horrible and full of ar**wipes and has been taken over by mainland scum.
West is Best.
There are a##holes in the West as well
I agree, but clearly West Wight does indeed have an element of ar** wipe…….
Not forgetting drug dealing ,alcoholics, car racers …..
La dee daa im West Side you know!
Would you like the whole island be ONLY islanderds!
Sounds like 1 of the Wroxall crew.
If it was your way it’ll be the scene where strangers walk into the pub on An American Werewolf In London.
“Don’t go out on the moors”
‘Mainland scum’ a lot of the so called ‘scum ‘work in hospitals ,ambulance, fire fighters, postmen, shops, banks, police, law dentists mental health, teachers child care housing hospitality i could go on…
Security cameras are made very small these days, no one need know where they are being located. They could have fitted them at the toilets in Ryde to catch the vandals but they let the damage carry on and then closed them.
nice bit of art work there. It should be kept for all to see
Can’t see the issue here…looks to be true and correct
The Police wont do anything i have had my property stolen ,burgled , property vanderlised , on many occasions , all caught on CCTV but the Hampshire Constablary will keep telling you after waiting 33 minuets calling 101 then to be told that THEY HAVE NOT GOT THE RESOURCES TO TACKLE THE PROBLEM .When the Hampshire Constablary ask the I.O.W Council for more money to fund the police force ,they get it from the rate payers ,but still crime is not tackled .
All of you have good points in wrote that because the council don’t listen any other way, they are jokes… pull up your socks and do something. And if you want I can do a little touch up on the council building next??
