UPDATED: The threat from palm oil to dogs across the Isle of Wight is still present with the recent discovery of the harmful substance on beaches in Yarmouth and Sandown.
The chalky white substance, which can injure animals if ingested, was first seen on the Island around two weeks ago at a beach in Bembridge, however has now been spotted on nearby Sandown Beach and on the other side of the Island in Yarmouth.
Palm Oil is not harmful to humans but care is advised if handling it.
UPDATED SUNDAY – Members of the public are still reporting today that Palm Oil is being found on beaches in Sandown and along the revetment towards Shanklin.
Anyone who spots the substance, as pictured, is advised to wear double vinyl gloves and place a strong plastic bag over the substance and bag it up, placing the outer gloves in with the oil before tieing it off. Anyone who collects the Palm Oil is asked to place it into a second strong bag and also tie off. This can be disposed of in ordinary refuse. The authorities can also be contacted.
