Emergency services have responded to a road traffic collision in Havenstreet this evening (Saturday) where a car has overturned.
Combley Road which runs between Briddlesford Road and Havenstreet’s Steam Railway has been closed as a result of a car crashing and ending up on its roof.
Police were initially reported to have closed the road shortly before 19:00 with paramedics called to check those involved in the collision.
It’s said the crash occurred in the ‘S’ bends that run through Combley Great Wood.
UPDATE @ 20:40 – A male has been arrested following the crash, in which the car has come to rest in the undergrown bordering the carriageway.
Andy from the Roads Policing Unit at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said this evening:
“A timely reminder with the 🏉 Rugby semi final on at the moment to please make other arrangements to get home via your legs, bus, lift or taxi and don’t take the risk to drink and drive.
“I have been dealing with this incident where a male has been arrested for drink driving and yes, there is a car in that hedge.
“It’s really not worth the risk 🚫🍺 as you can expect a minimum of a twelve month ban if found guilty at court.
“I am on all evening and will be relentlessly pursuing drink and drug drivers.”

When will people realise that drink driving kills innocent people.
It’s about time drink drivers are banged up!, keep our roads safe
That’s a very slight S bend
Not for a drunk driver clearly…

Silver BMW same one witnessed racing with another car some weeks back. Driving around a sharp bend on the wrong side of the road, nearly causing a head on collision. Hope the muppet loses his licence.
Hope he lives in Havenstreet, as there are no buses through there he will now have to walk, that will slow him down!
and how many silver bmw’s on that island i see about 8+ every day driving like D/H’s as for seeing that one well you must be good
IE, why a crash when only one car and idiotic driver involved.
Can’t agree more, but where are the buses in places like St Lawrence? I’m too old to walk over 2 miles.
