A car that has overturned and come to rest on its roof on the outskirts of Newport has forced the closure of Staplers Road tonight (Friday).
Police were called to the incident shortly after 22:30 and are currently in attendance dealing with the single vehicle crash, which is said to have occurred on the Newport side of the Isle of Wight Lavender Farm.
Upon initial assessment, it has been deemed the occupants of the car have escaped injury.
Staplers Road has been closed to traffic between Long Lane and Blacklands Lane, however, police have closed the road at Whiterails Road (Wootton Common) – diversions are in place via Long Lane and Briddlesford Road.
Southern Vectis’ Route 9 buses are also diverting via the above route in both directions.
The 22:40 route 9 from Newport to Ryde has been delayed at the crash site, unable to pass the overturned vehicle. Southern Vectis say this bus will return its journey as soon as possible.
The road is expected to remain closed while recovery is arranged.
UPDATE @ 05:30 – Island Echo understands that 4 young people in the red Toyota Yaris have escaped injury, but have been checked over at St Mary’s Hospital as a precaution.
The car is understood to have clipped a bank and rolled some distance down the road, as a result of speed.
The road has now been cleared and has reopened in both directions.

reactive not proactive yet again. sat at home last night listening to motor bikes toning up along backwater . no action yet again
So what’s that got to do with the story then or do just like commenting
who cares stop moaning and sort it out
Sort what out?
An overturned car has overturned?? So it’s the right way up now then!!
Not surprised .was only matter of time.im top of stapps and hear the daily/nightly idiot speeders.itll be the regular idiot of the fast speeding race motorbike that comes up here thatll crash at lavender next!
Maybe it’ll do you a favour!
What have motorbikes got to do with this accident ventnor depot ????
are you Retarded
30mph there. Must of been over that.
When you drive ‘four up’ you must drive slower and take things easy because the car handles in a completely different way to 1 or 2 occupants. Young and inexperienced. A tough lesson learnt. Thank fully nobody was injured.
Crumbs you must be an interesting person at a party
Glad all ok and hopefully have had a shock and drive a bit more carefully in future and can also encourage friends to think. What I never get is police speed van etc always out in day time and nice weather catching people 5mph over limit, yet most serious accidents from speeding happen in poor weather, nighttime etc. Down milli road early hours the other morning and overtaken by twats pushing 80mph + in old bangers, Golf/fiesta in rain and dark,no thought what else or who else on road – walkers and cyclists were out. Live on 30mph Rd and watch the speed measure sign often red at 45/50/60 mph ,why not place CCTV camera focussing on these, might not legal fine but show how bad is and few collar’s felt.
The radar/thing doesn’t work in the dark.
Neither does the old boy who sits in the van.
I thought radar was invented to help WW2 pilots navigate at night?
I know I just can’t believe the amount of walkers & cyclists out on the mili rd In the early hours in poor weather.
What, no ageist comments yet by the normal idiots on here.
Glad the kids were unhurt but lets just hope it teaches the driver a lesson for the future, SLOW DOWN its not rocket science.
Was only matter of time.im up top of stapps and speeders love it! Lavender corner is the downfall.the idiot motorbike racers( one in particular)are very lucky its not been then
Needs sorting all this
Very pleased to hear no one was injured. These roads are really quite treacherous.
DFL y6ou are pretty stupid. There is nothing wrong with the roads.. it is the poor skills of those that cannot drive on them.. probably like you !!
This road desperately need be reduced to 40 Mph………although I guess the sensible already drive it at that !
Lucky escape this time !
If people learn to drive, these accidents would not happen. Just because you have a driving licence, does not mean you know how to drive.. skills are learnt over time, not during a half hour lesson !! One needs to read the road.. know what to expect and drive accordingly… obvious by your statement you have no skills…
These idiots won’t listen to a word you say, all they have to say is hope they are ok..even though these crashes are self inflicted, they are idiots that are impossible to educate..
It must be hard for you living with all us idiots.
Why reduce it to 40, the cretins ignore speed restrictions anyway.
Is there any traffic police on the island ???
It appears not …
Hope not lol
Their too busy cross dressing..
And I’m feeling glad all over yes I’m glad all over baby I’m glad all over
Why are so many people glad these people werent injured..maybe i’m sadistic but a broken leg or two would be the best lesson these speeders could get and thus hopefully prevent an innocent victim in the future being hurt or killed..with no doubt much hand ringing on here.
Come baby light my fire
Well said, keep up posting reality, l totally agree with you…
Driving like a bell end
Training the iow daredevil stunt team young these days!!!
Hey, all these very clever and perfect iow drivers, how come I never see you out there. You lot are the most aggressive, terrible drivers I have ever seen. See a HW reg and keep away. .. You know it spells
IW drivers are the worst in the country, probably born in Wroxall…
More overturned vehicles with non medical episodes will be along soon.
