Fire crews are battling an outbuilding fire that has broke out in East Cowes this afternoon (Friday).
2 appliances from East Cowes and Newport have been mobilised to the Pump House Lane area of the town after flames erupted from an outbuilding, sending black smoke billowing into the sky.
Crews are working to contain and extinguish the fire, which has charred nearby trees and shrubs.
2 hose reel jets are in operation with water being pulled from a nearby hydrant.
The fire has occurred – ironically – to the rear of the Old Fire Station at the bottom of a Victoria Grove garden.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – The shed, measuring around 3x4m, has been 100% destroyed by fire.
The cause is unclear – possibly electrical – but there are no suspicious circumstances.
A wood store next to the shed has been saved.
Firefighters remain on scene damping down the area.
