A prescription locker that will allow people to collect their medication during out-of-hours times could be heading to Shanklin.
Day Lewis Pharmacy on Regent Street is looking to install a Servi-locker in its existing shopfront window.
The secure dispensing system has been designed to help those who struggle to get to a pharmacy within its opening times, as prescriptions can be picked up at all times of the day.
Prescriptions are loaded into the machine and patients are given a unique code to open the locker to retrieve their medication.
Instructions on how to use the locker will also be installed on the window to help patients.
If permission is granted, it could be installed in March, planning documents say.
The pharmacy chain already has a locker installed in its Cowes branch.
You can view the plans, 23/00060/ADV and 23/00059/FUL, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 3rd March.
It has recently been announced Day Lewis will add another shop to its Island portfolio — taking over the Lloyds Pharmacy on Pyle Street, in Newport.

5 minutes before it is dragged out of the wall in a ram raid like the cash machines are – only this time by junkies
Truth, a bit dramatic hasn’t happened in Cowes so let innovation have a chance certainly make it easier for me to collect.
Yes, or the patients or those tending them, beat senseless by recent seafarer types as they go to innocently collect the medications.
Stupid idea in todays enriched society, with Police nowhere in sight, nor too bothered as they know the prisons are so full of newcomers, our own home grown can never ever be jailed for meaningful terms again.
What a society we are all paying ever more for now.
Perhaps time for another Council tax refusal of payment to bankrupt the council and eventually get people who get priorities right when spending OUR monies.
Not been any problems with the one installed in their shop at top of Newport. Mind you I get mine delivered, but I do miss chatting to the friendly staff
Why people vote you down your statement is so true all the smack heads will be breaking into this
no idea desert -perhaps they live in some sort of utopia that we are unaware of – the fact that junkies will steal shampoo and nappies to sell for drugs, as well as robbing pensioners, tells you that they will sit there and work out a way to drag that off the wall – as it may contain drugs they can get high off.
It seems like a good idea to me.
Jesus Christ what a friggin stupid idea. Open for 24 hr abuse. Bloody obvious the locker wiil be broken into. Who the hell comes up with this sort of deranged ideas.
