UPDATED: A car has rolled on Smallbrook Lane in Ryde this morning, prompting the closure of the road.
The vehicle, believed to be a Renault Clio, has rolled onto its roof between the humpback bridge and Rosemary Vineyard as icy conditions cause hazard driving conditions.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at around 08:00. Thankfully, the driver – a male in his 20s – was able to free himself from the wreckage. He has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries.
Island Roads have been requested to attend the scene.
The road remains closed in both directions whilst recovery of the vehicle is arranged.
The incident follows a motorcycle accident on the main Newport to Sandown road earlier this morning, and another collision near to Watery Lane on the same stretch of road, which Island Roads have also attended.
UPDATE @ 08:50 – Stag Lane Motors have now recovered the vehicle from the scene, clearing the way for Island Roads to undertake a gritting run in both directions on Smallbrook Lane.
The road has been placed under a hard road closure and is likely to remain closed for the remainder of today.
UPDATE @ 09:35 – Smallbrook Lane has now reopened in both directions.
