Almost 80 nominees will be in the running for the 50th Isle of Wight Sports Achievement Awards, which take place at Medina Theatre in Newport a week today (Thursday 27th March).
The 50th edition of the awards will also celebrate the Island’s Olympians over the years, with several past Olympic competitors expected to be present on the night.
WRS Systems has come on board as the platinum sponsor of the event, which will see sporting stars aged from 8 to 80 rewarded for some amazing achievements.
The glittering awards night, organised by the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation, will be presented by well-known Island broadcasters and journalists Lucy Morgan, Harriet Hadfield and Matt White.
A total of 24 awards will be handed out – in categories ranging from junior boys and girls to masters sports people.
There will also be special awards for Service to Sport. Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Commitment, honouring Isle of Wight sport’s heroes behind the scenes.
Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, the High Sheriff, the Island’s MPs – as well as representatives of the Isle of Wight Council and sponsors – are among the guests invited.
