UPDATED: A VW Golf has collided with a wall in Wootton this morning (Wednesday), resulting in the vehicle coming to rest on its roof.
The occupants of the hatchback are thought to have fled from the scene on Station Road following the collision at around 00:30. The incident has occurred at the entrance to The Acorns.
Music can still be heard out of the car’s speakers despite colliding with a brick wall and rolling onto its roof.
A local dog unit is conducting a search of the area and Police remain on scene.
The road is open in both directions whilst recovery for the single vehicle is arranged.
UPDATE @ 02:55 – The vehicle has been recovered by Stag Lane Motors and the debris cleared by Island Roads.
The 3 occupants of the car have not been located.
UPDATE @ 09:20 – One witness has this morning described to Island Echo the moment the Golf hatchback nearly collided head-on with her, forcing action to swerve out of the way.
She said:
“They were driving on the wrong side of road. Luckily we managed to swerve out of the way.
“The car completely flipped over. Two lads managed to get out but my dad had to help another because he was stuck.
“All 3 lads instantly ran off”.
Police are investigating the incident.
