Coastguard Rescue Officers carried out a search following the sighting of red flares on the Isle of Wight this morning (Friday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were paged at 07:41 to multiple reports of red flares, reported by concerned members of the public.
Solent Coastguard requested a search in the vicinity of St Catherine’s Point, with officers searching from Castlehaven to Atherfield with nothing untoward seen.
Island Echo readers also reported seeing a red flare from Ryde, in the direction of Wootton.
HM Coastguard are warning Islanders to only fire distress flares in an emergency.
