Police have confirmed that no significant evidence has been found following the latest search for missing Robbie Gibson, who hasn’t been seen since June last year.
As revealed by Island Echo on Tuesday, specialist mainland-based Police dogs have this week been searching the Luccombe area of Shanklin alongside WightSAR and HM Coastguard. This latest search follows a similar attempt to locate 45-year-old Robert Gibson back in January.
On the afternoon of Monday 13th June 2016, Robert Gibson left his home in Gipsy Hill, Norwood. At 18:45 on the same day Police received a confirmed sighting of Robert – known as Robbie – catching the Wightlink catamaran from Portsmouth to Ryde. He is then believed to have boarded a train at Ryde Pier Head towards Shanklin before visiting the Shanklin Co-Operative store for groceries.
Detective Inspector John Stirling of Newport CID has today (Friday) said:
“Robert Gibson is still being treated as a missing person.
“We have searched areas around the Luccombe coastal path in Shanklin, based on information provided to us, but at this time no further searches on the Isle of Wight are planned.
“The investigation remains open should any further lines of enquiry present themselves, and we continue to appeal for any information regarding Robert’s whereabouts”.
