Work is underway across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to ensure the NHS is fit for the future as part of the Government’s newly announced 10-year health plan for England.
The national strategy, called ‘Fit for the Future’, aims to transform healthcare by shifting more treatment into local communities, embracing digital tools and focusing on preventing illness before it starts.
In line with these priorities, NHS Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is already developing neighbourhood health centres like Southampton’s Shirley Health Centre, which brings together GPs, mental health professionals, midwives and social prescribers under one roof for more than 15,000 patients. Integrated Neighbourhood Working Hubs are also in place across the region, helping people access joined-up services closer to home.
GP practices are now offering thousands more appointments each month with a wider team of healthcare professionals, such as mental health practitioners, paramedics and dieticians, to ensure patients see the right specialist more quickly.
Digital innovation is playing a key role too. ‘Dora’, an artificial intelligence telephone assistant, is helping reduce cataract surgery waiting times across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight from 35 weeks to around 10 weeks by managing calls and patient admin. Virtual wards are providing hospital-level care for hundreds of patients each week in the comfort of their own homes, supporting recovery for conditions like stroke and frailty.
Vaccination programmes, early detection of chronic kidney disease and a new approach to supporting frailty are just some of the preventative measures being rolled out to help people stay well for longer.
Dr Lara Alloway, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, has said:
“We support the NHS 10-year plan and hope that our residents will also see the benefits that it aims to bring to local care across all our communities. From integrated hubs to digital care, we will continue to build on our work to ensure the local NHS is fit for the future.”

Residents are also encouraged to make full use of the NHS App to book appointments, check test results and manage repeat prescriptions, freeing up valuable time for GPs to see those who need urgent care.
The full national plan sets out how the NHS will adapt over the next decade, with the aim of guaranteeing care for all who need it for generations to come.

Recently allowing a new fast food outlet to open in Cowes and Lake is not a good start for the health of locals. Some ten year plan!

Why I am usually vehemantly against outside consultants offering an overview of services, the NHS is crying out for siuch help, internally they know nothing about value for money, performance indicators or providing an exceptional service, why should they, they have the monopoly on care, we must take what is offered, we have no choice.

Farage has publicly stated, that if (when) Deform get into government, they will change the NHS to an American style ‘Insurance Funded’ healthcare system,,
So if you can’t afford (expensive) Health Insurance, you’ll get no healthcare…
(but you can bet thet they won’t lower taxes by the amount they save on not spending on the NHS,..No,… they’ll just create ways to pass that on to the already rich..)

They won’t ‘abolish’ the health service as such,..
there will still be hospitals & doctors & nurses,..
but it’ll all be privatised,.. (just like the water companies)
So rather than it being free for all… (or rather paid for by taxes)
it’ll be paid for directly by the patients, or via insurance that they have to buy,..
No (can’t afford) insurance, … no heath care..
(but you can bet that the won’t lower taxes by the amount that isn’t spent on the health service)
The fundamental difference, will be that rather than being run at cost & funded from central government, ..from taxes..
it will be run to make massive profits,.. to line the pockets of the already rich like Farage !! (why d’you think he is so keen on the idea?)
Unfortunately, when it comes to policies that work to make the rich richer & the poor poorer,.. Deform are even worse than the Conservatives

With Brexit = Quiet waiting room,.. Patient arrives,. is told “Doctor will see you now Mr x”
What he didn’t say, was that the ‘With Brexit’ version, was his vision of the future, where the NHS was privatised & the ‘patient’ was a Rich person…
Get rid of the bloody managers who do sod all, sit in closed offices drinking coffee and talking about holidays to the cronies up there at St Marys. If they are not doing that they are away at imaginary meetings that quite simply don’t exist except in there own heads.
The problem is, it’s not only the managers who need

Many of the staff are also useless, many are being paid
money for old rope.
Since the pandemic many NHS employees on the
island and around the country are working from home.
Many of them were useless in the workplace, so
now they are even more useless.
Honestly, W.T.F can an NHS employee do working from
home.
A complete overhaul needs carrying out, and the ones
shirking from home can be shown the door with immediate
effect.
People don’t like to hear the truth, but it must be said,
and I am saying it!

Let’s hope that now the islands NHS has been merged with the mainland that the island provides a better service to Islanders.
The service it has provided to Islanders has been chronically mismanaged for so many years.

Well, I can’t believe they’re so proud of themselves to be honest.
Care appears to be severely lacking in our hospital, staff don’t always know what they’re doing, don’t follow protocols and procedures and ignore valid advice from the few that do.
Why have a brand new unit that claims to want to prevent and protect patients, particularly women, from preventable diseases and those suffering from cancer if they refuse to even acknowledge gp referrals for symptoms relating to previous diagnosis!!??
Why ignore patients when they’re desperate to get help when they have a valid reason to get moles and lumps checked out and poo poo them. It’s atrocious and then when things go wrong you hear ‘oh if only’ it was checked early like a year ago it would’ve been sorted out. It makes me angry that this is going on all the time, people who should definitely know better are neglecting their patients because they are so intent on new shiny clinics getting them in the highlights.
Get real St Mary’s, you’re rubbish and we all deserve much much better services.
