KFC have confirmed that they intend to open a second store on the Isle of Wight, 12 months after Island Echo exclusively revealed the fast food chain’s plans.
Until now the takeaway giant has remained tight-lipped about its intentions for a new store at Lake, but it has been confirmed that plans are going ahead for a drive-thru restaurant situated at Merrie Gardens.
The new development, which will be the first national chain restaurant in the Sandown, Lake and Ventnor area, will seat up to 80 people and will have a dedicated car park with disabled bays and cycle parking.
Up to 50 new full time and part time jobs are to be created by the store’s opening, which is subject to planning permission being granted.
KFC currently operates just 1 store on the Island at Furlongs, Newport. A store in Union Street, Ryde closed back in December 2012.
A KFC spokesperson said:
“We’d love to open another restaurant on the Isle of Wight for our fans to enjoy. It’s early days at the moment, but we are on the lookout for a suitable location and hope to have some good news in the future”.
