Newport Carnival has announced that they have been forced to postpone their 2024 Christmas Parade.
The event – which was due to take place tomorrow evening (Saturday 6th December) – has been pushed back until Friday 20th December.
The parade will form at Church Litten from 16:15 and will move off from 17:00.
Newport Carnival had previously warned that they may be forced to cancel tomorrow’s event if the weather forecast didn’t improve.
There are currently 2 weather warnings in force on the Island ahead of the weekend, one for heavy rain and the other for heavy wind.
Taking to their Facebook page to announce the news, those behind the event have said:
“Due to the strong winds and weather warnings in place for this Saturday, it is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to postpone our Christmas Parade.
“The new date will be Friday 20th December at 5pm – the day before Ventnor Carnival‘s Lantern Parade.“We have been listening to our entrants and know how many people have put a lot of time, effort and money into attending our Christmas Parade, which is why we have decided to postpone instead of cancel.
“Hopefully, you can all make it on the 20th of December.”

Such a shame the weather is affecting many
events, great to see it postponed.
Better to be safe than sorry.
I am not too sure if the event scheduled on Saturday
in Godshill is being cancelled or postponed?!.
