Hundreds if not thousands of spectators gathered in Newport on a balmy Summer evening to celebrate the centenary of the County Town’s carnival in the biggest and most colourful parade Newport has seen in a decade, if not ever.
The carnival parade was headed by an array of historic vehicles, including a Sinclair C5. The highlight of the event was the performance of the 250-stong ensemble, Shademakers, who performed to great acclaim at the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant. They were followed by the eccentric, iconic Ventnor Comic Jazz, who also made an appearance before the Queen at the Jubilee pageant earlier this year.
The procession began at Church Litten and finished at Newport Quay, winding its way through South Street, Town Lane, Upper St James’s Street, Trafalgar Road, Carisbrooke Road, High Street and Quay Street.

Great photos, I wish I could get a copy of the St.Helens float as it is a brilliant photo of my daughter the St.Helens carnival queen.
