UPDATED: One of the arterial roads in and out of Cowes has been closed tonight (Monday) due to a burst water main.
A section of the new main between Somerton Roundabout and Northwood Garage on Newport Road has gone, resulting in the loss of supply to surrounding properties.
It currently remains unclear how long the water will be off for, however Southern Water engineers are already on site and are beginning repairs.
It is unknown how long the road will remain closed for and whether this closure will impact on tomorrow’s morning commute.
UPDATE @ 22:39 – Southern Water has confirmed that a 12 inch water main has burst leading to the loss of supply or low pressure for customers.
Repairs are estimated to take between 3-4 hours to complete.
UPDATE TUESDAY @ 07:30 – Newport Road is to remain closed to all traffic ‘for the rest of the day’ due to essential further works by Southern Water.
No estimated re-opening time has been given, meaning the closure could affect both the morning and evening rush hour.
Southern Water apologies for any inconvenience caused.
