The Classic Boat Museum are looking to appoint 4 new trustees as they look to continue to move the East Cowes-based museum forward.
With a collection of nearly 100 boats, maritime artefacts and an extensive library and archives that occupy 2 historic sites on both sides of the River Medina.
It tells the story of competitive and leisure yachting as well as the industrial shipbuilding history of Cowes – a major producer of lifeboats and ships for the Royal Navy.
The Board has ambitious plans to grow the museum on the Medina Yard site to display the museum’s holdings in one location beside the iconic Grade II listed hammerhead crane.
The Classic Boat Museum are seeking candidates who have skills and experience in one or more areas:
- Fundraising and sponsorship
- Marketing and social media
- IT and interactive displays
- Education and community engagement
- Maritime heritage
- Collections management
- Financial, particularly accountancy
- Experience as a legal practitioner relevant to Trusts
Time Commitment
- A Trustee is expected to attend 6 Board meetings a year (usually Friday mornings 10:00 – 12:00), including an Annual General Meeting in June.
- To commit to participate in working groups relevant to their skills/expertise and to be proactive in their suggestions for the betterment of the Trust and its overall objectives.
- Take an active interest in the activities of the museum and support events.
- Undertake any necessary Trustee training and safeguarding courses and qualifications.
- Support the work of the volunteers and freelance practitioners.
- The role is unremunerated for a term of 3 years with the possibility of reappointment for a further 3 year term.
