3 new Special Constables that will serve the Isle of Wight have been sworn into office, bolstering the local Special Constabulary team to 10.
Earlier this week an attestation ceremony was held with Magistrate Mrs Christine Conroy OBE JP confirming the new officer’s declaration. They were presented with their warrant cards by Superintendent Rob Mitchell.
The Special Constables have undergone 6 months of initial training, exams and assessments, all of which have been completed around their regular day jobs.
They will now join the Neighbourhood Policing Teams and Response and Patrol Teams across the Island to continue their development towards achieving their independent patrol status. This is all done on a voluntary basis, but they hold the same powers as regular Constables.
The new recruits have joined a team of 7 active Special Constables on the Isle of Wight who regularly support the local policing teams and the Isle of Wight community.

Reassuring that they hold the ‘same’ power as regular constables, in other words next to none.
With our prisons now full of the third world, courts cannot jail anything but the most extreme, which both criminals and Police know, so the problem with no meaningful deterrent grows ever worse.
Good luck in your well meaning positions in being nice to the vilest youth, who see kindness and weakness as respect of the law is long gone, and now because of the above will never come back
What is this racist comment about “the third world” doing unchallenged on this page?
Perhaps because it is factual, not singling out individuals but providing an accurate reason why many of our criminals now avoid meaningful sentences.
We still have a little bit left of ‘freedom of speech’ despite people like you ‘wanting’ equality and freedom, but ONLY if it fits in with your narrative.
You may be happier in another country like Russia, or Syria and ‘see’ what life is like when people have their thoughts, opinions and speech surpressed.
Try a valid counter argument instead of the well worn race card, IF you are intelligent enough to.
How is that racist, please explain.
Sheila the truth can never be wrong or legitimately’challenged.’
Try putting your spare time into helping the growing victims of the young being forcibly married, or such having forced genital mutilation, or young white girls being gang raped and damaged for life before criticising others for apt chosen terminology.
Your sort have ruined discussion and free speech not because what is said is wrong but often because it is correct.
Go and do all a favour and suck eggs
Congratulations and thank you for your contribution to the IOW and it’s law abiding residents!
freebies then as gov are wasting our money eleswhere! and they dont have same powers as police anyway.not much use with the drongoes we have here
well that will do it then, wont it !!!!!
Which one is the bad rasher 3 to choose from
More corrupt policing on the island
Well whoopy doo, what a difference that will make. Not.
Acab more bullshit there’s nothing on the island anymore old gits moaning no work for the young more policing is not whT it need a bridge and tunnel to create options to get off this place for work and a better way of life
Welcome Hobby Bobbies ! Freshwater and Ryde desperately need you, to shout stop at the toe rags .. good luck !! Stay safe
No small doubt they are well meaning, but with jails full of the world’s dross, never again can meaningful sentences be given, and sadly from about 6 years old upwards, everyone knows this, so more and more turn to crime knowing that even IF, and a big IF, caught little will happen to them.
So until we select entrants to the UK more carefully, and return those who don’t behave the way normal civilised humans would if another country was kind, or daft enough to allow you all the rights to live there, then we are never again going to reduce, only increase crime in the UK now.
SEE the real issue here even IF we have to pretend not too.
Interesting how you can take a post about 3 new special constables and turn it into a right wing rant about immigration. This is island echo not the national fronts discussion page..
Interesting how any factual IF negative points are put forward against such newcomers here, they are ‘rants’.
Proving that the poster was indeed correct and those not being able to dispute those facts quickly ‘pull’ the race card.
The article is about 3 newly qualified special constables you pratt.
need em all in just in ryde..
