A ‘sustainable, sensitive and small-scale development’ has been proposed for the outskirts of Cowes.
In plans put forward to the Isle of Wight Council, Three Gates Ltd is asking for permission to build 2x 2-bed and 4x 3-bed houses. The development would sit on Three Gates Road, behind the Esplanade Garage and across from Liz Earle and the Prospect Road Business Park.
The site has permission to be used for storage and distribution facilities with offices, although it has not been built on. In planning documents, the applicants say the new plans proposed are felt to be better suited for the site.
Ecology and wildlife enhancements are proposed in the development including a bat brick installed in each house; bird boxes in trees; small openings in fences to help animals move across the site; and fruit trees planted to feed birds and mammals. A new hedge would be planted along the front of the houses on Three Gates Road and grown to 2m in height.
You can view the plans, 23/00064/FUL, on the council’s planning website. Comments can be submitted until 9th June.

I’m all for it if it means they double yellow the rd, and it stops the bell end parking his pickup on the rd opposite!
These small developments have far less impact than the huge and disproportionate developments of hundreds of houses on one site. Which change the whole nature of an area.
These should be a priority.
That’ll be a nice tidy bit of profit thank you very much.
Used to be allotments & a gurt newt pond there back in the day, more habitat lost
The whole estate up by Liz Earl was built on bog..hope all the shells from the war have been found !
Not true, Ronsons Field never flooded more than any other locally, in fact it was good enough to support a cricket pitch, pavilion & football pitches for Plessey Sports in the 70’s & 80’s, until the refurbishment of J.S Whites Club on Park Road & the subsequent move of the sports teams.
Yet more houses to add to the other site allowed on the last bit of green space on Place Road next to The Range.
Terrible place to build, asthmatic corner with all that traffic.
