Police were called in to assist the local Mental Health Team in sectioning a man in Shanklin during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
Hampshire Constabulary assisted in executing a warrant obtained by Magistrates under Section 135 of the Mental Health Act.
Officers attended an address in Oaklyn Gardens just after midnight and assisted ambulance crews in gaining entry to the property. 7 Police units were on scene for several hours.
A negotiator was provided to talk with the man, who was refusing to come out of the address. A containment was also put on to ensure the man’s safety.
The unnamed male was eventually taken into the ambulance service’s care and conveyed to Sevenacres in Newport.
Police remained in attendance at the property at 07:00 this morning, some 7 hours after first arriving on the residential street.
