Brevity, the Isle of Wight’s Literary Handbill is teaming up with Boojum&Snark in Sandown to host an inspiring series of events for local writers of all abilities.
With Boojum’s ‘CHUFFLE’ exhibition top of mind (now on show at the Sandown arts hub), Brevity will lead a writing workshop entitled, Myth Makers, on 30th April, 19:00 to 21:00.
At this unique Night Write, participants will be accompanied by local fiddle player Sophie Vickers. Punchy warm-up exercises and compelling writing prompts will inspire participants to pen new short myths, legends and folk tales about the Island.
A companion workshop will follow on 23rd May at which writers can expect guidance and support from seasoned spoken-word performers, in preparation for a public storytelling event in October.
Anmarie Bowler, editor of Brevity, explained:
“Contemporary myths brought to life with humour, wisdom, empathy and local knowledge can create a shared point-of-view that brings a community closer together.
“Myth making is a lark, it invites writers of all abilities to let their imaginations run wild.”
Writers, experienced and first-timers, are most welcome, and while this event is free, book your place here https://brevityisland.home.blog/contact/
Tracy Mikich of Boojum&Snark said:
“Support, guidance and inspiration for anyone who’s thought about dipping into creative writing will be provided,
“Join us, come give your imagination and your pen a walk about.”
This event is part of Sandown Rocks, a Boojum&Snark project supported by Arts Council England. Boojum&Snark is located at 105 High Street, Sandown, PO36 8AF.
