Island residents have taken to social media after hearing an alarming air raid siren echoing out across parts of the Isle of Wight early this morning (Monday).
Mystery remains around the source of the siren, which was heard ‘as clear as day’ in the Calbourne area and more faintly across northern parts of the Island such as Cowes, East Cowes and Ryde.
Many have suggested that it may have been the nuclear warning siren in Portsmouth – but that is normally tested at 09:30 on a Wednesday. No one in Portsmouth has reported hearing the distinctive warning either, indicating the source is closer to home.
Locals have raised concern about the purpose of the warning as tensions build with Russia over their invasion of Ukraine.
Is it a practice run by Government, or perhaps an ill-timed joke from an individual? Comment below with your thoughts and suggestions…

After watching the news last night I am not surprised the Alarm systems are being checked. We will probably hear of more tests as the days progress unless something happens to Putin.
Good to see this mad man getting a kicking. But that’s what is going to make him even more dangerous.
He needs removing by his own people.
I would be willing to go over there, but no passport and no funds.

Well the one in the picture certainly isn’t a WW2 Air Raid Siren, but I guess that is just a convenient image.
I believe most of ours were removed though some were used as fire sirens in the 50s and may still be in situ.
Has the island even got one and has it been tested lately do we even have a fall out shelter anymore perhaps the council wants us to be toast burnt toast that is…….
