The timeless musical My Fair Lady is set to delight local audiences when it takes to the stage at the Apollo Theatre in Newport this Friday (11th July).
The beloved story of Eliza Doolittle – the spirited Cockney flower-seller who learns to ‘talk more genteel’ under the tutelage of Professor Henry Higgins – has captured hearts around the world since its debut in 1956.
Featuring classic songs such as ‘Wouldn’t it be Loverly?’, ‘With A Little Bit of Luck’, ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’ and ‘On The Street Where You Live’, the show promises plenty of memorable moments and toe-tapping tunes.
While known for its humour, romance and dazzling costumes – which the Apollo’s wardrobe team have worked hard to perfect – the musical also explores deeper themes about class and identity in Edwardian Britain. Inspired by George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, it questions whether social status truly defines a person’s worth.
