UPDATED: A former Red Funnel ferry, the MV Balmoral, has collided into Trinity Landing in Cowes this morning (Saturday).
Significant damage has been caused to the floating pontoon, located off The Parade on Cowes esplanade, after the passenger ship collided bow-first during its approach to the mooring.
The extent of any damage caused to the 1949 ship, which is undertaking excursions along the South Coast this weekend, is currently unknown.
Cowes Harbour Master is on scene. There are no reported injuries.
The Balmoral is included on the National Historic Ships register and was launched on 27th June 1949, almost 67 years ago. The ship is now owned by MV Balmoral Fund Ltd.
UPDATE @ 15:40 – The ship’s operators have said that the MV Balmoral will be unable to call at West Cowes tomorrow (Sunday). Passengers due to embark are being welcomed aboard from Yarmouth in the West Wight with the ship sailing at midday.
