The trial against 2 Isle of Wight men accused of murdering Tommy Barton in May of this year is to begin at Winchester Crown Court this morning (Monday). 27-year-old Cameron Baker and 27-year-old Rio Scott each face a single charge of murder relating to the death of 30-year-old Thomas Lee Barton, who was stabbed multiple times at an address on Park Road in Ryde on 28th May. Following 3 days of forensic investigation and questioning, detectives charged the duo with Mr Barton’s murder. The pair appeared before Southampton Magistrates Court the next day and Winchester Crown Court later that week, where they were remanded until a plea and trial preparation hearing. At September’s hearing, both Mr Baker and Mr Scott pleaded not guilty to murder. They have remained in custody since. The trial, which is being presided over by The Honourable Mrs Justice Cockerill DBE, is expected to last 10 days. It is being held in Court 1 at Winchester Crown Court.
