A 76-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this week has been bailed, as detectives continue to investigate the suspicious death of a woman in her 70s.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to a detached property on Glendale Close in Wootton on Monday morning. It’s at the property that officers discovered the lifeless body of an elderly woman.
The circumstances prompted a murder investigation to be launched with a 76-year-old male arrested at the address on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody for questioning.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that their suspect has since been released on bail until December, as further enquiries are carried out.
The force is said to be keeping an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police have been keeping guard at both the front and back of the potential murder scene this week. Detectives from both Newport CID and Hampshire’s Major Crime Team have been in and out of the address, as well as conducting door-to-door enquiries in the area.
The woman’s family have been informed and are being supported by Police.

There seems to be a few cases of older gents being arrested on suspicion of murder following an unexplained death. They are bailed to a later date and, as yet, no one has actually been charged. This is so sad as they have lost their wives, and cannot grieve properly due to the stress and worry of being charged.
Im happy to eat my words if it turns out to be murder.
