Cassidy Ley, the Isle of Wight teenager who captured hearts with her strength, intelligence and radiant smile throughout her battle with agonising medical conditions, has sadly died.
She passed away peacefully at Jack’s Place hospice surrounded by love, according to an update shared by her family on GoFundMe.
Cassidy’s journey over the past 18 months has deeply moved thousands of people both on the Isle of Wight and beyond. Despite facing an incurable diagnosis, she approached every day with courage and determination, inspiring those around her.
She battled dilated cardiomyopathy, ventricular tachycardia, chronic fatigue and a rare, terminal skin condition.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, more than £20,000 was raised to help Cassidy make memories with her loved ones. She used that time to live fully, including taking to the stage at CarFest 2025 where she received a standing ovation after sharing her story with thousands.
Her family has said:
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share that Cassidy has passed away. She left us peacefully at Jack’s Place, surrounded by love. Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain and finally at peace.
“We are so grateful for the incredible support, kindness, and generosity you have all shown throughout Cassidy’s journey. The last 18 months meant she was able to do so much thanks to you all. Your love has meant more than words can ever express.
“Cassidy was so Beautiful, Brave, courageous, intelligent, and always smiling despite all she had to endure. She will be greatly missed and forever in our thoughts.
“Please continue to keep Cassidy’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.”
Cassidy’s strength and spirit made a lasting impact on everyone who followed her story. She will be remembered not just for her bravery, but for the way she lit up the lives of those around her.
