Motorists driving up and down Folly Lane in East Cowes have been left with flat tyres as a result of a malicious act.
A large number of nails, tacks and screws, some embedded in drinks cans, have been placed down the lane to seemingly cause damage to passing vehicles.
Staff at The Folly Inn discovered the traps earlier on today (Tuesday). Some had purposefully been hidden under leaves to catch out unsuspecting drivers, indicating that the nails had been placed there deliberately.
Posting on the Isle of Wight Breaking News group, local resident Charlie Thomas, posting on behalf of staff, said:
“This is definitely not what people need right now, so close to Christmas and low on money and now having to pay out for new tyres!”
New tyres can cost anywhere in the region of £50 to £500.
UPDATE THURSDAY – Another can penetrated with nails has been discovered on Folly Lane this morning, ready to catch out motorists.
Jason has shared this photo showing the can he found on the last bend before the pub.

What can you say that hasn’t been said before? Idiots, morons, scum…etc. etc. Although i’m sure one or two will still say “it’s just bored kids, the council need to give them places to hang out and things to occupy them”, bless the bored little scamps!
It’s not always kids though is it
But agreed it’s stupid and dangerous. It could be an ambulance or fire engine it disables
There’s some sad people out there
Sad people get a job you jealous….
Sad and weirdos hey Bob ???
this will be some old fart that objects to cars driving along “their” lane.
Far too well planned and executed to be kids.
Couldn’t agree more.
What has happened to our beautiful Island !!
We let locals run it!
Dirty SCUMBAGS. This is not only vindictive It’s bloody Dangerous, hope the culprit is found, find, floged, & pays up for any damage.
My wife’s tyre was punctured 6 times driving back that way from work last night, had no idea what had caused it till seeing this. Absolute scum and worse of all I doubt we will ever find who did it.
And what if someone or even a child had trodden on one?
Mrs Lovejoy
Or a pet cat
It is clearly a local mechanic who is struggling and needs the cash
My guess would be a retired male, a non-driver, and very local.
Definitely a resident at medina park…….they spend over £100,000 on a home which is a caravan and they dont even own the land and they pay monthly group rent =)
i was coming back from St Marys 2am, and some prat threw an egg at my car on Wootton Bridge.clearly not their day to have the brain cell in that family.
