Victoria Grove and Adelaide Road in East Cowes has been closed this afternoon (Wednesday) to enable Southern Water to carry out repairs to a burst water main.
Contractors have closed the main road between Vectis Road on Victoria Grove and Minerva Road on Adelaide Road.
This is to allow Southern Water contractors to carry out repairs to a burst 6-inch water main.
Southern Vectis has said that due to works covering half the carriageway, the road had to be closed, resulting in diversions in place for their route 5 buses.
“Owing to roadworks covering more than half of the carriageway, contractors have closed Adelaide Grove East Cowes.
“RT 5 will divert via York Avenue in both directions until further notice”
The road will be closed for the duration of the works with motorists having to divert via Victoria Grove, York Avenue and Adelaide Grove.
Diversion route(s) will be signed at the time of closure. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.
From 12:30 hours on 16th December 2020, for a maximum period of five days or until remedial works are completed and the site made safe, whichever is sooner.
If you have any queries regarding the above please contact Island Roads on 01983 822440.

* Please note that the closure period of the order stated above is for legal reasons. In most scenarios, works are normally completed much sooner than the 5 or 21-day order. However, if the works do overrun, a new, updated order will be issued and published on Island Echo.
