MAP: Motorists and those living in the center of Ryde are being advised about a large scale closure in the town alongside accompanying diversions and restrictions next Thursday (14th May) for the Pearl Izumi Tour Series cycle race.
The majority of the main arterial roads in Ryde Town will be closed from 09:00 until midnight this coming Thursday. The closures are to allow a 1.2km street circuit to be constructed for Round 1 of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series.
Spectators are advised to use Park and Ride facilities at St John’s Station, to use Island Line services from other towns or to use Southern Vectis buses. Access to Ryde Pier will be from St Thomas’ Street only and access to Hovertravel will be from the East of the Esplanade only.
In addition, the surfaces of Union Street and the remaining section of Dover Street, both of which are largely concrete based, will both be subject to repair works on Monday and Tuesday (11th-12th May) next week to ensure the last section of the race circuit is in a suitable condition for the competitors.
While pedestrian access will be maintained at all times to local properties and businesses, diversionary routes will be in place for vehicles between the hours of 09:00 and 22:00 to allow the work to be carried out as quickly and as safely as possible. Parking in Union Street itself will also be suspended but car parks remain available in locations nearby.
The following roads will be closed on Thursday:
06:00 – Midnight:
– Esplanade (from Dover Street to St Thomas Street – southern carriageway only)
09:00 – Midnight:
– Dover Street (from Esplanade to Melville Street)
– Melville Street (from Dover Street to George Street)
– Cross Street (from George Street to St Thomas Square)
– Union Street (from Cross Street to Esplanade)
There will also be restricted access (residents parking and access only) on the following roads:
– Union Road
– Castle Street
– Nelson Street
– George Street (Esplanade to Cross Street)
– Nelson Place
– Bellevue Road
One-way restrictions will be in operation in Union Road and parts of St Thomas Street and East Street.
