A flood alert has been issued for the Eastern Yar once again, with rising river levels expected to cause flooding in the Sandown area. The Environment Agency says that owing to 12mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours or so, river levels on the Eastern Yar have begun to slowly rise again. Locals are being warned that minor impacts could continue at Golf Links Road and Morton Common, with ditches around Fort Holiday Park likely to struggle to drain. This could mean that the main Brading to Sandown road is closed again in the near future. Further rainfall is expected over the weekend, which will only add to the problem. Flooding at Alverstone and Langbridge is possible, although property flooding is not expected. Islanders are being urged to avoid walking or driving through flood water.
