The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance – a registered charity that is funded by donations from the public – has touched down in Shanklin this morning (Monday) in response to a medical emergency in the area.
Flying medics were first scrambled from their Thruxton base just before 11:00.
Having made the journey south, the yellow and green liveried helicopter circled the local vicinity before touching down at County Ground, the home of Shanklin Football Club.
Specialist medics then made the short journey to Green Lane, but Island Echo understands that the medical incident has occurred outside on the pavement.
On the ground, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service (IOWAS) has a Critical Care Paramedic, Rapid Response Vehicle and 2x Ambulances in attendance.
UPDATE @ 13:00 – The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has taken off and has conveyed the patient to St Mary’s Hospital.
Island Echo understands that a passer-by gave CPR to a man who had collapsed on the pavement, prior to the arrival of medical teams.
