Mobile phone network provider O2 is on the move in Newport, relocating further up the High Street from its existing location.
For more than 15 years, O2 has been based at the junction of Holyrood Street, High Street and Quay Street, acting as a point of contact for O2 customers and somewhere to browse the latest handsets on the market.
However, it has been revealed this week that the mobile giant is shutting up shop in its current location.
Shopfitters have been busy transforming the former Mountain Warehouse shop near St James’ Square, turning the outside from green to blue. Signage has now been erected which reveals the future purpose of the shop.
It’s understood that the existing store will close at 17:30 today, with the new store welcoming its 1st customers on Monday morning from 09:00.
Before Mountain Warehouse took over, the new shop hosted Mothercare which eventually moved to the Taylor Road Retail Park in Carisbrooke before closing in 2018. It is unknown what will become of the existing O2 shop opposite Hong Kong Express.
O2 previously had a 2nd Isle of Wight shop in Ryde, but that closed over 10 years ago.
