A minibus has careered into a parked car on Horsebridge Hill between Newport and Cowes this morning (Monday), prompting a response from emergency services.
Police, fire and paramedic crews are all on scene near to the junction with Hogan Close.
The incident happened just before 07:20 and has seen a van – thought to belong to Vestas – crash into a parked vehicle, shunting it forward. Both vehicles have sustained damage but the extent of any injuries received is unknown.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has mobilised 1 appliance from Newport in the interests of safety, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also in attendance.
The road remains open in both directions but traffic is building.
UPDATE @ 09:42 – Significant damage to the doorway of a residential property has been sustained as a result of a vehicle smashing into the building.
Emergency services have now stood down from the incident.

Maybe this was engineered by the Council to increase usage of the chain link ferry? Idk, scumbag business tactics
Are you pissed? Bit early in the morning to be so drunk? Nice tin foil hat by the way.
I think they mess with the Stag lights in the mornings, save the back up at St Mary’s roundabout that they wasted millions on just to make it look like it works! In my 33 years here that traffic light junction has never been as busy as it has since that roundabout being put in!
Given the built up housing with an additional 7 properties on the hill, a speed restriction to 30MPH is long overdue, it will save lives!
how is that then ? knone knows what happened did someone pull out of a junction..all will have to wait and see.
Save lives? A minibus has back ended a parked car on a perfectly straight road, please tell me how that is because of the speed limit? If anything there needs to be one or two less parking spaces before Hogan close because getting out of that road is quite an issue, people having accident’s like this have nothing to do with roads or speed limits, just clearly an idiot not concentrating, and no one was hurt. The island is slow enough let’s not cause us all to be at a standstill for the rest of our island lives!
If I remember rightly a TRO was applied for to reduce the number of parking spaces in that area but our inept councillors voted against it, maybe they should have a re-think.
Being a pedestrian I beg to differ, there are only a few considerate drivers that will let you walk safely in and around Newport in my area it a bloody race corse with big fat exhausted belting out noise. Built up areas should have a limit, Why ? Bc there’s children and elderly. Walking you see it all…
If you’re voting on a 30mph speed limit it is because you are too old and incapable of driving at sensible speeds. Might as well go back to horse and cart
20mph in Wales and London
Coming to the Island soon, especially if Labour take power.
Labour run Wales and London have already introduced it.
Ha, ha, ha, Labour would never get in over here. You must be joking, no sensible person would make such a bizarre comment
Well I think that you’re right but after the two recent by-elections the BBC and a lot of the the national press predicted the IW returning two Labour MP’s at a general election.
Defiantly won’t be doing Tory..
Vote Reform. Fresh blood good ideas
Won’t be voting labour then. We need to get things moving on this island.
I agree with you, did you know that the main road Cowes to Newport, was the national speed limit, 60 mph and there were no speed related accidents, no traffic lights at all and the traffic was always free flowing.
Traffic lights impede the free flow of traffic wherever they are installed.
The T-junctions at Stag Lane, and Hare and Hounds are a perfect examples of council over kill, all it’s achieved, is to create tailbacks at both junctions, at times you cannot even negotiate Robin Hill roundabout, because of a queue from the H&H traffic lights, before they were installed, it was a mini roundabout and the traffic was free flowing, no tailbacks. Mini roundabouts are cheap, just a pot of white paint, lights cost tens of thousands.
Is there NO Specsavers on the Island!!
Maybe the driver was taken ill?
Many an accident has happened with drivers having heart attacks and not all are old. The average age for Heart Attacks is now 45.
Built up residential areas usually are 30mph…
Why do people always put it down to bad driving, stop and think before you comment, the driver could of had a medical episode, I hope the driver of the mini bus is okay and makes a speedy and full recovery
Please check if the brakes and steering rack were ok
The average Island IQ is significantly higher than yours…
I blame the Audi driver
so what was the story with the red car that was there that had its back end staved in and damage to the front or was that a separate issue
