Middle Road between Newport and Calbourne will remain closed until at least tomorrow (Tuesday) due to ongoing tree felling works.
Island Roads’ teams and subcontractors have been busy clearing branches and debris from Storm Dennis at Apsedown Cuttings on Middle Road, close to Swainston.
The road was closed on Saturday morning over safety fears as strong winds moved across the Isle of Wight. It comes after a driver was nearly killed when a tree went through the windscreen of his van.
Island Roads say they have more work to do on-site and therefore the road will remain closed tomorrow until this work has been completed.
Motorists have been thanked for their patience.
UPDATE TUESDAY – Island Roads say that Middle Road will remain closed for the remainder of today and into tomorrow, for what they hope will be the final day of tree works.
Residents’ access and access to the Blacksmith Arms remains.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Middle Road has now re-opened in both directions.

How many trees were victim of the storm? Or is it that a lot had previously been marked and the excuse to fell them arrived via the storm.
