The sole occupant of a Nissan Micra has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital following a road traffic collision on the main road between St Helens and Bembridge this afternoon (Saturday).
Emergency services were first called to the St Helens end of Embankment Road at around 14:00 following reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision.
At the scene a grey Nissan Micra, travelling towards Bembridge, has left the carriageway and careered into a hedge.
Island Echo understands that an elderly female was tended to by resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service before being transferred to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
A single pumping appliance from Newport was called to the scene in the interests of scene safety.
Embankment Road was closed for a time but has since reopened.
