The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has been called to The Bay this afternoon (Monday) in response to a medical emergency in the area. Flying doctors have made the journey from their Thruxton base in Northern Hampshire having taken off at around 13:25. Having been seen in the skies above Perowne Way and The Fairway, the helicopter touched down at Sandown & Shanklin Rugby Club at around 13:45. It’s at the rugby club that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has met with the air ambulance medics, supported by retained firefighters from Shanklin on a medical response. It’s thought that the initial emergency call came in at around 12:35. UPDATE @ 14:27 – The patient has been conveyed by land to St Mary’s Hospital, accompanied by the air ambulance doctors. The helicopter itself has relocated from Sandown to the helipad at St Mary’s.
