A medical emergency in the village of Freshwater has resulted in the scrambling of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) this afternoon (Friday).
Resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance service – who were dealing with a medical emergency in the area, requested the assistance of HIOWAA at around 15:45.
Having made the journey from its Thruxton base, the helicopter landed in the Stroud Recreation Ground, where paramedics were waiting to transfer the patient.
The casualty is expected to be taken to a mainland hospital.
UPDATE @ 16:40 – HIOWAA has lifted off and has conveyed the patient to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
Always a better option when taking patients to a
Mainland Hospital, no offence to St Mary’s on the
Island, but better facilities on the mainland and survival
rates are much better.
If the Island had a Tunnel or a Bridge they could close
the islands A&E down and take patients directly to
Pompey or Soton
