Cross-Solent operator Wightlink has announced that, due to a ‘mechanical’ issue with 1 of their ships, they have had to cancel 6 morning sailings on the Yarmouth-Lymington route both tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday.
On both days, the 07:30, 09:45 and 11:45 sailings from Yarmouth are cancelled as well as the 06:15, 08:40 and 10:45 from Lymington.
A spokesperson for Wightlink has said:
“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

Can’t fill the boats up again, stop taking us for fools…..
Ikr, how do they know the boat will have mechanical issues on Wednesday and Thursday, hmmmm
now is the time to look at a tunnell , what with fishbourn to Portsmouth 2 saturdays running ONLY SATURDAYS ?
maybe whightlink think we have just got off a banana boat , time for compensation that wi stop it
Sorry is always the answer, it has become a favorite saying, and it is a meaningless gesture. If they were ‘ sorry ‘ in the true sense they would not let it keep happening. A competent business would ensure that a replacement ship was available or staff were available to replace the ” essential ” crew that keep causing cancellations.
The transport providers to the Island ( all ) should state, Sorry but due to our inability to run a reliable service in a satisfactory manner yet again, we are causing you delay and frustration, unfortunately for you ( our paying customers ) you will have to put up with it, and there is currently nothing you can do about it, as a private company we can do what we like when we like.
Stop the inbreeding. Build a Bridge…
Stop the mixed race cosy Christmas adverts and barbwire the English Channel.
Most sensible thing I’ve heard all day.
A bridge is a must and it would help stop inbreeding.
Is that the same problem that they had with Victoria of Wight this morning (Broken toaster)
Always something wrong with their ships
More B S from wightlink
Yet they still advertise a 99% reliability rating!
That’s only on the sailings they fulfill, doesn’t include those they’ve cancelled!
Strange how many mechanical issues occur out of season, isn’t it?
What, do you mean when they’re not very busy? Surely not! Shitelink need to be ashamed, but that would include them having a basic understanding of the misery they cause regular travellers and not just the ones they rip off in the holiday season. Really glad I moved to the mainland and only return infrequently and after checking the service status.
Mechanical issue = not enough bookings to fill the ferry up / lets bring out the joker card again … blah blah blah
And it continues, but until we do something about it, there will always be these daily ferry problems. There is a fixed link study waiting to be performed, once the remaining funds are raised, but until more people & businesses donate, it won’t be done. The IW council won’t get involved, because the ferry companies have threatened to remove their travel discounts if they get involved in helping to raise the funds, & the MP has vested interests in the ferry companies. His cousin works for red funnel & his mate owns a company that has wightlink as its biggest client. All these details and information about the study is on the Solent freedom tunnel website
Your Mechanics must be very incompetent if they cant fix the problem.
Better let them go and employ someone who can do the job then!
Wightlink your just so transparent…..
20 years ago we never had these issues. Were staff healthier ? The boats mechanics better made. Was the maintenance carried out properly then ? Or did the ferry companies actually give a damn ?
I was on the yarmouth ferry monday, no complaints about the service and I do not believe subsquent issues were the caused by staffing, I counted 12 staff on out ferry not counting the man who drives the boat plus his deputy and his assistant, if everything they had staff overload.
