Police appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was attacked and sustained a broken jaw in Ryde at the weekend.
The incident took place on Union Street at around 00:30 on Saturday morning (5th August).
The 46-year-old victim from Shanklin was walking along with 2 women when a man coming the other way came up to him and punched him. The attack knocked him to the ground and caused his jaw to break in 2 places.
The attacker is described as being aged in his early 20s, white with short blond spikey hair.
Anyone who saw the incident or has any information about the attack is asked to contact DC Kelly Thorne at Newport CID on 101. Information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Island Echo understands that a second, unrelated incident took place during the early hours of Sunday morning. It is said that a man sustained serious facial injuries in an assault at the corner of Union Street and Esplanade. No further information has been made available.
