A fisherman found clinging to the side of his boat after going overboard at the mouth of the River Medina has been rescued thanks to quick-thinking bystanders and the emergency services.
The lone sailor is understood to have gone over the side shortly before 18:00 this evening (Sunday), with members of the public alerted to his plight as he shouted for help whilst clinging on to the 14ft cabin boat.
A passing RIB quickly went to his aid on the Eastern side of the River Medina, between Red Funnel and the Floating Bridge, with further assistance from Cowes Harbour Master and later Cowes RNLI lifeboat.
Solent Coastguard coordinated the emergency response, tasking not only Cowes Lifeboat but Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team too.
It’s understood the man’s dog also entered the water and was successfully rescued.
The incident has now concluded with no need for the casualty to receive hospital treatment.
